What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a substance comprised of components from your blood that work together to aid in healing damaged tissue. Your body can heal its own tissues after injuries, and PRP is a way for your healthcare provider to harness and target those abilities for your benefit.

PRP consists of two main components:

Plasma

Plasma is a yellow liquid that keeps all cells in your blood suspended. It allows your blood to flow like a liquid through your vessels. It also allows PRP to be injectable through a syringe.

Platelets

Platelets are a type of blood cell that pile into injuries and form clots to stop you from bleeding excessively. They send signals to more platelets in your blood to join in and help repair tissue damage. Once activated, they release growth factors to aid in tissue regeneration.

How is PRP made?

The components of PRP are all readily available in the blood, so how do you derive PRP from your blood?

First, your provider at DNAge Medical draws a small sample of your blood. They use a device called a centrifuge to spin the blood sample rapidly. The spinning causes your blood to separate into different layers, each containing an exceptionally high concentration of a particular cell type. They isolate the plasma and layer of platelets and prepare it for your injections.

How can PRP benefit me?

The team at DNAge Medical uses PRP for several aesthetic treatment purposes. If you’re interested in adding this natural component to your treatment plan, your provider can tell you more about how it fits into your treatment and what to expect during the process.

You can use PRP for:

Skin rejuvenation

PRP may be available as an additive for your microneedling treatment. The tiny needles create channels that allow PRP to infuse into deep layers of your skin, where it helps heal minor injuries from the procedure and older scars.

Hair loss

Research shows that PRP injections may help heal hair follicles that can no longer grow hair.
